Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to our FAQ page! Here you can find simple answers to common questions about applying to college, getting financial help, choosing classes, keeping track of your school records and more.

Admissions

Do I have to take the SAT/ACT?

CCTC does not require the SAT/ACT to be admitted. We have three areas of placement: English, reading, and math. We can meet those requirements in a variety of ways, and we can check out your test scores if you have them – but they are not required. Check with your advisor for more information about placement requirements.

Why do you need my high school or GED transcript?

CCTC does not require a high school or GED transcript for admission. However, almost all forms of financial aid require it, so get it ordered as soon as possible! Also, some programs of study such as Health Sciences and Early Care and Education might have separate transcript requirements.

What are Central Carolina’s admissions requirements?

All prospective students must complete an application at cctech.edu and submit a copy of a current state-issued photo ID.

What class options do you offer?

We have a variety of options for both the full-time student and those juggling their education with work and family obligations. We have full semester classes and shorter “minimester” classes offered as in-person, hybrid, and online options. We also offer many of our courses at all four of our county campuses. Please know that not all classes have multiple delivery options – don’t hesitate to ask if you are ever unsure about your options.

Does CCTC review unofficial college transcripts?

Your admissions coordinator can use an unofficial or official transcript to meet initial course requirements. Student Records will then make a final evaluation of your official transcript and transfer any eligible credits after admission. Once the official review is completed, the Advisement and Support Center (ASC) advisor will advise you on classes to complete your final registration.

I’ve been accepted, what are my next steps?

Congratulations! There are a few next steps for admitted students: make sure all final documents have been submitted (official high school/GED and college transcripts), your FAFSA has been completed, and access your myCCTC student account. From there, your academic advisor will recommend your first semester of classes, and you will register for those in myCCTC. Sometimes, your ASC advisor might refer you to your program advisor or financial aid for more information before registering. Monitor your email (both personal and myCCTC) regularly for any other requests for information.

What if I’m not sure about my program of study?

It’s okay to be unsure! Career Services is always a great option to do a deep dive into your interests and goals – a counselor will work with you one on one to ensure you are in a program that best fits you. Visit Career Services any time you have career questions, no matter where you are in the application process.

If you are an admitted student and want to know more about your program or a different program that you are thinking about, schedule a VIP tour to meet with the program manager, get more information, and ask any questions you may have.

Dual Enrollment

How do I qualify for Early College and Dual Enrollment?

CCTC uses multiple measures to qualify students for Early College and Dual Enrollment. We use all of the following to determine qualification: high school transcript, PSAT/SAT/PreACT/ACT scores, and the CCTC Next-Generation ACCUPLACER. Check with your dual enrollment counselor for more information about placement requirements.

Do I have to take classes every semester?

Some students take classes their entire Junior and Senior year, while others take classes for one semester. It is up to the student when they want to take Dual Enrollment classes; it can vary.

What class options do you offer?

We have various options for Dual Enrollment, Early College, and Youth Apprenticeship students juggling their education with high school, activities, work, and family obligations. We have full semester classes and shorter “minimester” classes offered as in-person, hybrid, and online options. We also offer many of our courses at high schools and all four of our county campuses. Please know not all classes have multiple delivery options – don’t hesitate to ask your dual enrollment counselor if you are ever unsure about your options.

Will Dual Enrollment classes transfer?

Yes, Dual Enrollment general education classes transfer throughout South Carolina to public and many private institutions. Here is a helpful website: https://www.sctrac.org/. Frequently, the classes transfer out of state also; please inquire with the transferring school.

Is the tuition free?

Dual Enrollment tuition, fees, and Slingshot subscription are no-cost when using Lottery Tuition Assistance and the Titan Tech Scholarship (also known as SC Wins). The Dual Enrollment student’s parent/guardian must be a resident of South Carolina, and the student must be registered for at least 6 credit hours per semester.

Do I need to complete a federal financial aid application?

No, Dual Enrollment, Early College, and Youth Apprenticeship students do not need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. Instead, a CCTC Lottery Tuition Assistance form must be completed and submitted with your application.

TIP: If you plan to attend Central Carolina the fall semester after graduation, you need to complete your FAFSA and enter our school code 003995 for Central Carolina to receive your FAFSA. Contact admissions at (803) 778-7812 or admissions@cctech.collegeinbound.com about continuing with us for summer or fall if you are graduating.

Why do you need my parent’s information?

We ask for parent information on the application to ensure you qualify for in-state tuition rates as a South Carolina resident for Lottery Tuition Assistance. If you are a military dependent stationed at a South Carolina Military Installation, you will need to complete a Military Dependent of Active Duty form to qualify for Lottery Tuition Assistance.

I’ve been accepted; what are my next steps?

Congratulations! There are a few next steps for dual enrolled students: make sure all final documents have been submitted; check your Titan Start portal for letters, student identification number or C-number, and myCCTC username; and access your myCCTC student account daily. You should check your email (both personal and myCCTC) regularly for updates and any other requests for information from your dual enrollment counselor.

Why do you need my parent’s information for the FAFSA?

The FAFSA requests this information when appropriate to determine your household income and ultimately determine the types and amounts of federal and state aid in which you might qualify.

After I’ve done my FAFSA, where do I get information about my financial aid and payment options?

Once you’re an admitted student, you will have access to myCCTC. There, you will find a “Financial Services” tab that holds all your financial aid information. The middle block will list all received or requested requirements.
