Section 5: Student Success

In addition to graduates (see Section 3) and graduate placement (see Section 4), there are several ways to measure student success in college. This section provides summaries of the following success measures:

  1. Fall-to-Fall Retention
  2. Fall-to-Spring Persistence
  3. Licensure and Certification Exam Results

Fall-to-Fall Retention

The fall-to-fall retention rate is defined as the percent of students enrolled in a given fall semester who are enrolled at CCTC in the next fall semester. For example, the 2021-2022 fall-to-fall retention rate refers to the percent of students enrolled in fall 2021 who also enrolled in fall 2022.

This sub-section shows fall-to-fall retention rate by school and by program. Retention rates are calculated based on enrollment data reported to the South Carolina Technical College System.

Fall-to-Spring Persistence

The fall-to-spring persistence rate is defined as the percent of students enrolled in a given fall semester who are enrolled at CCTC in the next spring semester. For example, the 2022-2023 fall-to-spring persistence rate refers to the percent of students enrolled in fall 2022 who also enrolled in spring 2023. This sub-section shows the fall-to-spring persistence rate by school and by program. Persistence rates are calculated based on enrollment data reported to the South Carolina Technical College System.

Licensure and Certification Results

Many CCTC programs prepare students for careers that require the student to pass specific licensure or certification exams. The pass rates in this section represent the percent of students in a program who passed the related exam out of those who attempted the exam. These data were collected for the purpose of this publication.
